Nothing has changed since it first opened in 1853 and closed in 1991. The prison is now referred to as the "Old Geelong Gaol". Some believe the gaol may be haunted and several paranormal research groups have visited the site.
The Geelong Gaol Ghost Tour offers displays of the history of this three-story prisons. Visitors also can experience the brutal conditions prisoners endured over its 138 years of history. Visitors are able to view the gallows, in which there's an exhibit recreates the 1863 hanging of James Murphy, who battered Constable Daniel O'Boyle to death at the Warrnambool courthouse.
A tour guide in a costume is provided, and each tour's limited to 30 people. With a knowledgeable tour guide filled with scary stories of the old gaol. They'll show visitors which part is have the most paranormal activity, which is sure will get your heart rate going.
